PICA

Pica (play /ˈpkə/ py-kə) is characterized by an appetite for substances largely non-nutritive (such as clay or chalk).[1] For these actions to be considered pica, they must persist for more than one month at an age where eating such objects is considered developmentally inappropriate. There are different variations of pica, as it can be from a cultural tradition, acquired taste or a neurological mechanism such as an iron deficiency, or chemical imbalance. (source: wiki)

pica

A light lunch, a salad of mixed Swedish words,
blue paper chunks, peppered with tobacco.
Glossy nail polish juice, garnished
with a thousand fine pieces of hot pink glitter.
A fresh palette cleanser, flower petal
and grey wool ice cream, ideal even in winter.
The kisses of blue-eyed young girls,
dialogue from TV shows dealing with the supernatural,
and transfeminist post-pornographic blog posts,
-the slam poetry of NYC kids pretending to be Egon Schiele-
wash it down with sweet blackberry fountain pen ink.
The crusty mustard pages of old books and black leather jackets.
For dinner, the memories of rough pillows melting in your mouth,
literal finger-licking goodness late-night snack.

This is the poem I had been working on. I wrote it on paper, which I rarely do. I am much much better now. But for a while there, it was like involuntary anorexia nervosa, man. Ta.

what are you going to say?

What.are.you.going.to.say?

What would they say, if they had to see my blood staining my shirts every day, drip drip drop,
if the truth about my father came out, one, two, fourteen days in bed, if I became a stench overpowering everyone? My body decomposing into a neat collection of bones, who needs food when you have cigarettes?
what if they knew that the way my toes are always waiting to run?
I will cut out my sexual organs and shave my head, or buy a chastity belt and sow up my mouth.
what if they knew about all the men I have killed, all the women I have raped?
If I was unclean, unsexed, lazy, and a drunk.
What would they say if I became a vampire, and I died in the sea, burned to ashes mixed with salt water by the sun? When they find out that I never learned anything, that Metz was right and no one knows de Kooning or Glenn Gould but everyone knows Snookie?
Would they be disappointed if all I did was watch TV and masturbate and never think another thing ever, until I get bored and knock back that bottle of Ambien I have in my drawer? When the crystal music finally became too loud and my nose dove into the snow? Aiming for the doe deer, wrapping christmas lights around my neck, swing there, swing back.
Would they try to stop me, would they be horrified? Would their faces melt because I hate them so much? What are you going to say when I do it?
Would you even care, fag? What are you going to do when you realize this is pasto pasta pastiche?

I can't even tell what my body is doing.

Hey, I am sorry I don't write more often. I have been doing everything and nothing. I go through phases of working like a maniac, to dissociating with everything, drinking into a stupor and napping for the better part of the day. I have so much to say, and so little time. Well, little energy. I am graduating too soon, I don't want to, and I don't want to talk about it right now. Me and Jwife have been having pretty intense conversations about it all. I don't know what anything means, I don't know what I am going to do when I don't have her or anybody else around. My soul is about to shatter into a thousand parts, I don't necessarily want to be around when that happens.

Lately I have been feeling more worthless than usual. Well, more like I didn't take advantage of my school at all. I spent three years here and I have little to show for it. No thesis, no major paper, no extracurriculars. Just lots of pictures of drunken nights and a couple of new scars. Oh well.

I go between having grand plans about the future, being optimistic, to having panic attacks at lunch, fueled by coffee, mate, or other drugs.

Half Moon Glasses

But, I have been doing superficial things, like downloading all the Crystal Castles albums and all the dubstep Skins songs. I am obsessed with Crystal Castles now. I don't know what took me so long, but it's great music to study, read, clean, and even fuck. (Also Alice Glass is hot)

Crystal Castles - Doe Deer (right click to download)

I also started watching Angel again. It's awesome. I have watched awesome movies lately:

32 Short Films about Glenn Gould

Near Dark (do not watch if you can't handle gore)

Yesterday I watched The Virgin Spring AND read a Henning Mankel book. More reaffirmation of how incredibly cool the swedes are. I really really need to move to Sweden. I know this girl who got into grad school there. I want to try for next year. Hopefully it'll be a thing. Can you imagine, Stockholm? I wonder if there's gay people there.

I don't really care as long as Max Von Sydow is there

Ok, I'm going to go read about cultural studies in film theory. Minorities making movies, who woulda thought?

that poem stuck in my head

I have had this song stuck on my head all day. And now it's your turn!

It was 12 degrees Celsius today. I was walking around in a t-shirt and a sweatshirt. I know for my Uruguayan counterparts, this may seem a bit extreme, but believe me, it's like fucking summer up in this bitch. Going from -12 to 12 is a big deal.

Today I had a poetry class, and, while I find the class kind of boring and my professor a rambling old man, I really enjoy translating poetry. Today, we translated a poem, Maçã, by Manuel Bandeira. It goes like this:

Maçã
Por um lado te vejo como um seio murcho
por outro como um ventre de cujo umbigo pende ainda o cord
ão placentário

És vermelha como o amor divino

Dentro de ti em peqenas pevides
Palpita a vida prodigiosa
Infinitamente

E quedas t
ão simples
Ao lado de um talher
Num quarto pobre de hotel.

via coquelicot, asleep in the poppies
 And my translation is such:

Apple
Sometimes I see you like a wilted breast,
Others like a womb whose navel hangs from the umbilical chord

She’s crimson like love divine

Inside of you in small seeds
Palpitates a prodigious life
Infinitely

And you stand so simple
Next to utensils
In a vile and unkind hotel room.

I obviously changed some words, and some grammatical structures are not the same. For me, I immediately thought this poem was about abortion, which my professor was quick to point out that I was damn wrong. WTV, I still think it. It's kind of obvious, no?

"Murcho", I got wrong. I thought it meant 'singed', but it means rotten. For "pobre" I had to choose another word other than "poor" because that sounds idiotic. "Cheap" could be okay, but that word only captures the dingy, not the evil. Right? Right.

I also don't think prodigious is a pompous word.

Grr, homework.

poems about russians

you guys i still have yesterday's make up all over my face. as promised, i drank wine (and other, clearer, forms of alcohol). i am now at work, trying to read a story about vampires (i seriously will be talking about this until graduation) and failing completely.

sad truth: when you google image search "vampire" the suggestion is "twilight"

but heeeeeey, good news! uruguay is going to the olimpics! for football, which is the only thing we give any shits about. i mean, it's the only time i am actually patriotic. last world cup was ridiculous. les rompemos a todos el culo.

he literally flies
y sin hacer un big deal de esto, pero el ruso perez es dueño de mi corazón.

en fin, today in potery, we talked about how different poets are relevant at different times. lorca was very important to the beats and the hippies, but now not so much. i believe it's because lorca is a poets who deals with big issues, the desperation of the masses, injustice and whatnot.

maybe now we are more concerned with the lack of personal connections. we are a big mass of anonymous people. so, poets who are relevant now are poets who deal with the tiny, nitty-gritty stuff of the self, trying to communicate with another self. which rarely happens IRL. what do you think? i mean, all my favorite poems are love poems, because i think that's so rare today.

maybe it's just me.

hungry at night

dressed all in black, with pearls in my pocket,
my boots are the freezing peel of a tree.
my door is ajar, why won't you close it?
can i have some water?
i'm hungry at night.
can i drain you
of your knowledge of photography and science?
bitter cod, my necklace
reminds me of what you taste like:
cheap vodka and jasmin.

is anyone knocking?
